MARGATE & COCONUT CREEK PUT A BIG
STOMP DOWN
TO THE NALC STAMP OUT HUNGER FOOD DRIVE.
On May 14th the dedicated staff of the two Post Offices, the citizens of both
cities and our volunteers showed up in full force and did an amazing job towards
stamping out hunger and filling The Pantry of Broward’s depleted shelves.
What sort of job one might ask? They collected, sorted, stayed to the bitter end
on their own time, and because of them, we were able to transport
35,936 pounds of FOOD!!!!! We call that nothing
short of AMAZING.
Every one of The Pantry staff and all of our volunteers were in place
doing their assigned tasks. Penny our CEO was using the fork-lift with the skill
of a professional. Our “Sir” John was ready and up on the trucks using the
pallet jack as the trucks rolled in. Everyone at all of their stations displayed
their abilities with the “old-timers” from last year teaching the new exactly
how to sort and stack the bins.
Thank you everyone. We are extremely humbled and proud by all of your efforts.
IN SOME AREAS OF BROWARD COUNTY IT
WAS RAINING CATS AND DOGS OVER MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND.
BUT, AT POTENTIAL CHURCH IT WAS RAINING PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY.
Actually it was literally pouring down peanut butter and jelly until there was
some concern that the ground beneath it was sinking down a few feet. When
Potential Church members are given an assignment they follow through and then
some. Their mission this past Mother’s Day weekend was to collect peanut butter
and jelly for our elderly clients and grandparents raising their grandchildren.
Let me tell you it will be Mother’s Day at The Pantry until Labor Day.
Our CEO, Penny had fingers and toes crossed hoping against hope that we might
get 200 jars. When their truck chugged into our lot Tuesday morning, I think all
of us literally had our hearts go still. The back end of this huge box truck was
almost scraping the ground. Then, they opened the doors and we were faced with a
mountain of peanut butter and jelly. All boxed and ready to be unloaded and
weighed. The fork lift driver and the volunteers were busy for an hour unloading
and stacking near the scales. When all was said and done, Potential Church
members donated 5,700 pounds or 4,000 jars of peanut butter and jelly. That’s
not a typo, that is correct, 5,700 pounds/4,000 jars of peanut butter and jelly.
Now this is a rumor, but probably true, the grocery stores in Cooper City had to
put in emergency orders to restock their shelves. Today The Pantry feels
truly Blessed. Thank you one and all.
