MANY THANKS TO
THE SOUPER BOWL OF CARING
Many
thanks to the different groups and companies that supported "Souper Bowl of
Caring" food drives this past weekend, especially to Micro Typing Systems in
Pompano Beach, Florida who collected 125 lbs of food for those served by
The Pantry of Broward.
"Dancing with the
Stars of Broward"
The Pantry of Broward's upcoming 2nd Annual
"Dancing with the Stars of Broward" gala event on Saturday, March 13th, 2010
gives the impression it is going to be an even greater success from last year's
event!
In a recent preview event
held at the Bimini Boatyard Restaurant, the excitement was palpable as
over 100 guests previewed the run down for this year's gala which will
be held at the Westin Hotel (formerly Yankee Clipper) on Ft. Lauderdale
Beach.
The Pantry of
Broward is a unique agency servicing seniors in need on low, fixed incomes and
grandparents raising their grandchildren throughout Broward County. There are
more than 30,000 seniors living in poverty in Broward County and one in 11
grandparents is the principal caregiver for their grandchildren. More
information can be found at www.thepantryofbroward.org
The "Dancing with the Stars" concept is based on the very popular TV show on
ABC. The Pantry of Broward has invited five popular local figures
to train for three weeks prior to the event, each with a professional dance
instructor. The night of the event, each of the five couples will initially
dance two selections and then the judges will vote to eliminate the first two
couples.
There will be a semi-final vote after one more dance by each team, eliminating
the third couple and then a final dance for each of the two finalists and the
audience will vote for the winner. Each dinner guest will be given a coupon with
which to vote plus they can make a donation to The Pantry of Broward
to gain extra votes for their dancers.
This year's "Dancing with the Stars of Broward" event is Co-Chaired by Gale
Butler and Ginny Miller and the dancers include (in alphabetical order):
Frank Ortis, Mayor of Pembroke Pines
Brenda Johnson, Community Volunteer and Organizational Consultant
John Offerdahl, Former Miami Dolphins & Restaurateur
Stacy Ritter, Broward County Commissioner
Roxanne Vargas, NBC 6
