The
Pantry of Broward, Inc.
BANK OF AMERICA FOUNDATION MAKES GENEROUS DONATION TO THE PANTRY OF
BROWARD
July 1, 2009
The Bank of America Charitable
Foundation made a generous $ 20,000 donation to The Pantry of Broward
to help with programs for seniors in need and grandparents raising
grandchildren throughout Broward County.
"This
wonderful support comes at a critical time of year for The Pantry of
Broward," commented Penny Loughan, the agency's CEO. "During the
summer months food donations drop but the demand for services continues.
This gift will help us continue our services. We are very grateful to
Bank of America for all they have done to help serve the seniors in our
community through The Pantry of Broward."
The check was presented by (LtoR) Katrina W. Wright, Senior Vice
President, Community Relations Manager; Mark R. Mallar, President
Broward County, Bank of America; Penny Loughan, CEO, The Pantry of
Broward and Debbi J. Correale, Senior Vice President, Global
Treasury.
General Electric/NBC Donate to The Pantry of Broward
The
General Electric Volunteers Foundation has made a generous $5,000
donation to The Pantry of Broward. The donation took place live
on "South Florida Today" on June 23rd, 2009 when host John Mayer
presented a check to The Pantry of Broward's CEO, Penny Loughan.
General Electric is the corporate owner of NBC Universal.
"We are very happy that we can make a meaningful contribution towards
the exceptional efforts of your fine organization," wrote Jennifer
Fitzgerald, Manager of Corporate Community Affairs for NBC Universal in
California.
"This support comes at a critical time for The Pantry of Broward,"
explained Loughan. "The summer months are very slow so far as food
donations so this wonderful support from the GE Volunteers Foundation
will ensure an adequate supply of food for the seniors in need we
serve."

IT TAKES A WHOLE VILLAGE....
The Jewish Federation of
Broward County built apartments off Commercial
Boulevard in Sunrise. The Secretary of Housing and Urban Development
(HUD) partially subsidizes its operation. The Pantry of Broward helps
feed over 75 of the 230 residents over the age of 70 who are alone and
"living" below the poverty level.
There is a waiting list of over two years - and growing - to enter the
Leo Gudman Senior Center where residents have a maximum monthly income
of less than $760 a month. The apartments are all efficiencies or one
bedroom and all the seniors have to be independent and able to get
around. Hardworking people who have lived longer than their savings who
are basically broke.
Working together with other agencies to provide for seniors in need on
low, fixed incomes, The Pantry of Broward reaches out to hundreds of
seniors throughout Broward County each month. Please join the movement
and help...

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed
him for a lifetime." Everyone understands this quote in the Biblical and its
literal sense, but
The Pantry
is going to
translate and modernize it into our present day technical society. The senior
citizens of Broward County know how to “fish”.
The Pantry
is going to
teach our elderly who are on fixed incomes, and our elderly who find themselves
raising their grandchildren, where and how to “fish” for the resources that will
enrich, enlighten, and ease the strain of their everyday living. |
